Our History

At the beginning Mass was held in the homes of the faithful for the handful of Catholics. Back in 1998, Mass was then held in Yu Tung Court Wan Ho Kan Primary School and Fu Tung Caritas Home for the Aged.

With the opening of the International Airport in Chek Lap Kok, more people came to live in Tung Chung. As Tung Chung became more populated, starting from 1999, Mass was held in the chapel situated at Sheung Ling Pei. The chapel was called Tung Chung Mass Centre which was part of the Epiphany Parish.

Previously, the chapel was a clinic opened in 1971, later became a kindergarten, and finally a chapel. Week day Masses and community activities were also held here. Part of the building served as a dormitory for the serving priests of Epiphany Parish.

In 2000, it was renamed Tung Chung Our Lady of Visitation Chapel Mass Centre. In 2001, the Secondary Section of the Tung Chung Catholic School opened and all Sunday and anticipated Masses were moved to the school. However, week day Masses were still held in Tung Chung Our Lady of Visitation Chapel. In September 2002, the Primary Section of the Tung Chung Catholic School became operational. Since then and up until now, all Sunday and anticipated Masses were celebrated in its school hall to accommodate the growing number of parishioners.
